Toenail fungus = emergency room?

My boyfriend thinks he has a toenail fungus, so he calls the doctor to schedule an appointment. They ask him a couple questions and then tell him he needs to go to the emergency room. Why? Is it serious?Toenail fungus = emergency room?
Since toe-nail fungus is not a life- or limb threathning condition, my guess is that your boyfriend probably doesn't have medical insurance, or has an insurance that does not pay as much as the greedy physician charges...

He's sending him off to the emergency room so the rooms can get clogged up with ';patients'; that don't have any medical emergency whatsoever... and they can bug the E.D. nurses, physicians and techs why they have to wait 4 hours and that they came in first before the car-crash, the resperatory or cardiac arrrest that just came in...

It doesn't sound that serious. If you go to the ER and the insurance won't cover it, your boyfriend will be looking at a fee probably close to $100, atleast.

If he wants to get it checked out, he should go to an urgent care, first.
