Today, yes they do. I am all natural. When I do use a design I might have them matching and I might not.

I do them myself.
My nails are either clear coat or a french manicure when I have them done. My toes are always a bright, cute color. I go to a shop around the corner from my house.

i don't get mine done anymore since i don't have a babysitter and my bratty twin boys ruin the peaceful environment of the nail salon. i used to get acrylic french tips on the nails and I'd do my toes at home, usually blue or purple.

Any cures for toenail fungus?

buy Listerine - the original.........soak you toes in Listerine three times a day, about 10 minutes each time, and in about one month you will find the fungus GONEAny cures for toenail fungus?
You can get ointment/ antibiotic cream over the counter at walgreens/ longs/ most drug stores its good stuff and worked good for a friend of mine plus its cheaper than going to see a doctor and it works.

keep your feet dry and clean and change your socks regular cuz bacteria loves the wet dark places to grow. use the anti fungal spray in your shoes (you can get that from drug store too), but dont just leave the problem or it will get worse....and ignore the stupid comments by people.

good luck.xxAny cures for toenail fungus?
If you steep a tablespoon of fresh thyme and put it in a footbath, that's supposed to help.
Yes but you MUST get it confirmed by your doc before you can be given the treatment. (dont remember why but is very important to get a correct diagnosis in this case)
Tea-tree oil.
Soak your toes in vinegar for one hour. Use pipe cleaners to get under the surface if you have to. Spray your shoes with anti-fungal spray.
wash your feet in hot water regular ?
Rub Vick's Vapo Rub into them every day before putting on your socks.
Iodine works great!
Hello =)

Best cure and prevention is sunlight....lots and lots of sunlight...

Sand and seawater help also..

Can you take a vacation to a beach sometime soon?? then, afterward, stop keeping your feet covered so much, and get some sun on your toes....sandals are your toenail's best friend.

There is that pill from the commercial with the little bugaboo that lives under your toenail. It takes a while to work, but if you don't correct the condition that caused the fungus in the first place, it'll just return ultimately. Those conditions are lack of sunlight.

Namaste, and Happy Holidays,

eeeeeewwwwwwwwww!
Soak feet in Apple cider vinegar
Had the same. Went to GP sent clipping away for 6 weeks just got result with antibiotics for 3 months. Except they took so long to get result actually it grew out on its own. It takes about 9 months to one year to finish.
yes, if you go to your g.p surgery, there are prescriptions available. two choices, 1 is a couse of medication, which may take up to a year to clear up, the other is a laquer (clear) called ';LOCERYL'; which comes as a complete kit, alcohol wipes, nail boards, applicator etc. which is very effective and will clear the fungal infection within just a couple of months, applied once a week .
I was told to make a solution of 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water, then spray on toes every night and allow to dry. I haven't tried it yet so good luck.
...yes..but alot easier if you are female...BRIGHT RED NAIL POLISH...good luck...it works...xxx
CUT THEM OFF
My Nana soaked a cottonball with mouthwash and applied to her toenail twice a day and this got rid of her fungal infection. seriously!

other than that, go to your doctor and he/she will give you something to use. Or try the chemist, i'm sure there's something you can buy over the counter that is quite effective.

Sort it out ASAP though, otherwise it will spread to other toenails!
course of anti-biotics and regular visits to a podiatrist

Is a new toenail growing?

i took the nail polish of my toenail and noticed it was a little discolored nothing major but then it looked like there was a nail on top of a nail but they are still connected. its like theres a nice new nail then this older nail on top connected to it. is there a new nail growing and will the old one eventually come off?Is a new toenail growing?
Yup, sounds like a new nail growing all right. I had that happen after I smashed my toenail by letting a table fall on it. The new nail will push the old nail out as it grows. It took mine a couple of months to completely grow out. Pretty neat to watch!

How to cure Toenail Fungus?

is there any house hold products i could use.. would soaking my feet help? and i heard soaking them with Listerine mouthwash helpsHow to cure Toenail Fungus?
Well, it will dye your toenails yellow, but I would go for oil of turmeric and camphor. First remove as much of the nail as possible. Soak your foot or toes with the turmeric oil and camphor, then wrap in plastic wrap overnight for a week.

I don't like or dislike them. I have a certain disinterest in them. I just clip them, throw them in the garbage and forget about them. I refuse to allow them to run my life.
I feed them to my dog; he loves them.
Oh my god, I love em. Like log.

    Listerine cure for toenail fungus?

how to useListerine cure for toenail fungus?
you definitely need to get rid of fungus!

for me worked very well ZetaClear! I think it is the fastest way to get rid of fungus! Nail fungus is tough to treat. The extracts in Zetaclear provide the most powerful therapeutic effect for healthy looking nails.

Obviously, you can't spray herbicide on your feet or hands! The next best thing is Zetaclear. It's made from all-natural homeopathic ingredients. This product works time after time and results are guaranteed. This extra strength solution is designed to be as aggressive and strong as possible, without causing irritation.

It worked fast and still works for me!

I do not know if any pharmacies carry ZetaClear but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product here http://www.zetaclear.com/?aid=749165Listerine cure for toenail fungus?
A doctor once told me that iodine is the only thing that will go through the tissues and get to the infection. If it's actually a fungus, you can get Berman ointment, which is undecylenic acid - used to be called Desenex ointment. Keep it dry, use a foot powder like lotrimin and change your shoes and sox daily. But Iodine first. You can get stainless iodine also.
i don't know about listerine but i know tea tree oil will cure it!
you should try tree oil if that doesn't work go see your doctor

Having my big toenail removed today - does it hurt? Reassure me please!!!?

i had my two big toes done weeks apart and yes it hurts like hell after they have been removed, thats why the orientals use it as a tortureHaving my big toenail removed today - does it hurt? Reassure me please!!!?
Hi Matt, it is more painful when the effects of the anaesthetic wear off.

Under local anaesthetic the doctor/ surgeon may use an elastic band wrapped round the toe as a tourniquet ( to help stem bleeding) and will then inject into each side of the toe the local anaesthetic. This hurts because the toe is usually sore anyways.

After a few minutes for the anaesthetic to work, the doctor/surgeon will remove the nail, put a puff of antiseptic powder onto the fresh bed, and then a dressing held in place with tube gauze, finally cutting the elastic band off to allow the blood circulation to come back to normal.

A few days later, a district nurse may call at your home to change the dressing, or alternatively, you go to your own doctors surgery. If at home, it may be worth soaking the dressing in warm water to help release it from where it has stuck to the bed of the nail.

After changing the dressing, you will be advised of any repeat visits/ follow up treatment.

generally paracetamol 2 tablets 4 times a day is advised for pain management.

Yes it hurts a little bit, but a little pain short term rather than a lot of pain long term is worth it in the end. Also take a loose fitting slipper/sandal as the toe will be dressed. and may not properly fit in your shoe.

Good luck Mike tHaving my big toenail removed today - does it hurt? Reassure me please!!!?
Arr bless...I had this done not long ago.

During the procedure it was more uncomfortable than painful. When they injected anaesthetic that bit stings but soon wears off.

When its over with they will put like a pressure bandage on it which is uncomfortable but if u take some paracetamol it should keep the pain under control.

Best of luck...You will be fine :)
Sorry, can't reassure you - that'd be lying.

Hope it goes well for you and that pain relief has improved since I had it done 20 years ago.

Oooooh, it's making me flinch just thinking about it.

Just be very careful afterwards. Good luck.
Not with today's modern anaesthetics and pain relievers.

    Straightforward, good luck.

I stubbed my toe real hard. It's bleeding somewhat under the toenail. Dark red color. Will I lose the toenail?

The toe still hurts alot after a few hours. I remember one time I got two fingers caught in the garage door and I ended up losing those fingernails about a week later. When the toenail bleeds underneath, do you always end up losing it?I stubbed my toe real hard. It's bleeding somewhat under the toenail. Dark red color. Will I lose the toenail?
You shouldn't lose the nail if it did not peel back; ice it down for a while if you haven't already and keep it elevated. It will be bruised but you shouldn't lose the nail. The bruise mark and blood mark will grow out naturally.I stubbed my toe real hard. It's bleeding somewhat under the toenail. Dark red color. Will I lose the toenail?
no you wont lose it my stubbed her toe and broke her toe and she did nothing to it and it is fine
Yes you wil lbut it will grow back I would go get it checked out

I have done that and it was black n blue for awhile, and then your nail will fall off but it does grow back mine did.
yep. You will this time. If you hit it farther back you won't but on the end yes definitely.
Not always. Keep under the toenail clean. That's the last place you want an infection to start.
No, sometimes it's just bruising. Eventually it'll heal and go away, or grow out. However, if it goes black at all, you might lose it.
if it gets really bad and pus collects under the nail heat a pin and stick it through the nail, if you do loose it, it will take about a month to grow/fall off
not always, depends on how bad it is bleeding, if your toenail starts to change colors then you'll probably lose it. ouch! sorry!
Ice and painkillers, it will sort itself out.

    Will my toenail grow back?

Last week I was on vacation in St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. I was walking to the hot tub in the dark and hit my toe on a big rock. In the process my ENTIRE nail was knocked off. It is my ring finger toe on my left foot. When I say the ENTIRE nail, I mean roots and all. The nail is not on the toe at all. Will the nail grow back? And if it does will it grow back and look like it did before? Will my toenail grow back?
That happened to me last year and happened again the day before yesterday. I does grow back quickly in a week or 2. You should just leave it alone for now. Will my toenail grow back?

  • Just say if you you had an ingrown toenail on your big toe and it was really south of cheese r maggots wise?

Okay, here we go... Use a cuticle nipper to trim the dead skin surrounding the nail as much as possible to relieve the pressure and then cut the nail as short as you can. In the future trim your toenails frequently and make sure to make them SQUARE!!! It is the rounded corners that grow into the skin and cause ingrowns. Remember, trim regularly and keep 'em square. Good luckJust say if you you had an ingrown toenail on your big toe and it was really south of cheese r maggots wise?
Sure why not, they clean off all the dead skinJust say if you you had an ingrown toenail on your big toe and it was really south of cheese r maggots wise?
I dont understand your question you should reword it and then people can reply!
If you can afford to see a doc, obvious.

But as for me, all my life, I have taken a VERY sharp knife, carefully inserted under the toe line where the ingrown is, and lifted slowly and again until it cuts out the offending part that is growing out the wrong direction and causing infection.

It can help if you cut some and then pull out the offending part with one of those medical clamps, that they sell at the fishing store to pull out hooks with. Or thumb pressure will do.

You'll need hydrogen peroxide, then antibiotic cream, and maybe a band aid.

And some machismo, or Indian spirit. I grew up in the old school.

I do this to myself every two months or so.

But then the relief is immeadiate.

    And save a lot of $, long waits in lobbies, and Mental PC surveillances, and BIG BROTHER logs on your ';Record.';

That's what I DO. I'M NOT SAYING YOU SHOULD, OR COULD.
Go and see your doctor before the infection gets to the bone and you lose your toe. Please.
I'd say soak that thing in salt water and get to a podiatrist ASAP before you loose the toe.
    EW YOU SICK FREAK!

    DISGUSTING!

At the moment it's luminous green
    hot pink.

How long is too long for toenails?

Over the last three months I have let my toenails grow. I also started polishing them with OPI Bubble Bath and Creative Super Glossy topcoat. My friends say my feet look girlie but I am wondering, how long it too long for a guy?How long is too long for toenails?
I think they shouldn't grow past the top of your toe. Or if they look NASTY shorter, then cut them. I prefer mine to have a little length so that I can french tip them. How long is too long for toenails?
Guys should never have any length past their skin on their toenails. Girls can go a little longer but not much. And why in the world would you paint them with anything other than clear polish? Most guys wouldn't even do clear.
i think toenails should be kept short regardless of what sex you are. the only reason for keeping them long is if you wanna stab someone with your dragon lady feet.
they're too long when after you've cut them you have a 3 hour drive till you see the ends.

but really they're too long when the extend 1cm out of the toe area
I think long toenails look disgusting on guys and girls. A proper pedicure does not involve growing your toenails long.
If it looks like you could swoop down and pull a trout out of stream with them, they are probably too long.
Well for me personally I don't like long nails because when girls scratch you or dig there nails into my arm it hurts! maybe like half an inch.
When it looks like they are WANTING to go out of your feet!
    Short. Long is grosssss.
they're to long when they start to put holes in your socks
if you are asking you need to cut them

and stop polishing them thats gay
it's too long when it passes the skin.
when you cant see the tip of your toe.
When they cut through your shoes
well you dont wont it too sharp, just maybe a 2 centimeters long
    i would say ideally 2cm x
Eww lol just cut it who grows toenails anyway?
eww if u can see white cut it! i cut my toenailes every week. Its just a pet-peeve but i cant stand long toe nailes

    Ingrown toenail help please?

Well I have a bad ingrown toenail that hurts when lil pressure is on top of my toe. My mom is calling the foot doctor next week for me to go. Now I heard the surgery does not hurt what so ever. But the shots in the toe with the needle hurt. I just want to know how bad it hurts? Does it hurt where you want to kill yourself or does it hurt to where you can bare the pain? My first time having an ingrown toe nail removedIngrown toenail help please?
I go to a dentist who puts in the novacaine so nicely it doesn't even hurt as much as a mosquito--no lie. I've been to dentists where I almost pass out it hurts so bad. It's the technique. I haven't had ingrown toenails, but my kids had the corners ingrown from not clipping them properly--short enough and round at the corners, and chubby toes. Foot care is something I never was into until the last 5 years--I'm in my upper 50s--and I'm really starting to have to give my feet some tlc. I never did this before. Best to start young so you know what you are doing when you start getting old. My oldest daughter swears by pedicures.Ingrown toenail help please?
omg i have one in both of my toes, don't they suck!?!?!? i want that procedure done sooo bad!
It's not horrible, they wrap a tight little tourniquet around your toe, and then numb it up, you might feel the first stick- but by the time they do it again, you are already getting numb. Not horrible.

http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/fact/thr_repor鈥?/a>Good Cure for a Ingrown Toenail?
    clip it.
The only cure that I have found to date is to get the nail taken off by a doctor. He will do it in his surgery, but it leads to a never ending series of going back every 12 months to get the nail removed again. I have heard of a procedure that takes some of the flesh from the toe, thus allowing the nail to grow back on a flat bed, but I have not heard of success from this, or not.

Hope you don,t suffer too much.

    Good Luck!

    Regards Pa69
I have no that problem never, but my mum suffer from that diseases. It very painfully as I now.As I remember my mum steam out her foots at a hot water and than cut toenails, but not arround the toe or straight. Its very help her!Good luck!
Make a ';V'; cut in the middle of the nail...

If you are looking down at your toe, cut a 1/8 inch notch (or ';v';) in the middle of the nail perimeter (the arc that you normally clip).

The nail will naturally want to close that notch, which pulls the nail away from the tender sides.

I normally start to feel relief in a matter of hours (probably 6 or so).

It isn't instant, but it does work.

What colors do you usually paint your nails/toenails?

I usually paint mine blues, black %26amp; purples. What about you? What colors do you usually paint your nails/toenails?
I usually use some shade of purple. Recently, I've been using a lot of deep purples, blues, and blacks. I use all shades but I love darker shades more. What colors do you usually paint your nails/toenails?
    pink!
I usually go for light pinks or purples. They are my favorite color and they look great on my skin. If your ever in doubt just go with a french tip. Its classic and its cute.
my skin is naturally beige, so i put on a coral(pinkish) color. usually on my toenails i go with clear.

i do think red is dramatic color, i like that too
light pink, light purple, red, n blk cuz i'm emo
A golden brown, so more of a neutral color. However, if I'm angry... I'll paint them bright 'firetruck' red.
    finger nails- pearlish

    toe nails- bright bright pink
pink red orange french white tip
i get french, pink, black, red. =]]]
    Purple.. silver
i like pink and red and orange
I don't paint my toenails. But those colors sound cool.
I just painted my nails today and I painted them all pink and put white hearts on them.

For the white hearts I just took a piece of paper and poured white nailpolish on it then took a toothpick and dipped it in the nailpolish and made little hearts. By the way they are very cute 鈾?
    light pink, red or french!
i paint my fingernails like a white//that is if i dont get acrylics.

i paint my toenails black, sparkly pinnk, green..or red.

    yum.
mine are usually in a french manicure.
    pastel.. deep red... clear/nude...
A bright red, a pastel pink, or a mango color are what my daughter paints her nails.

OPI has some very fun colors in their Brights Collection for summer. My fav is a lime green called ';Gargantuan Green Grape';.

    Will my toenail grow back?

Was playing basketball jammed it pretty bad, started to turn dark brown inside. 2 Weeks later my doctor said it would takes a max of a year to heal, but then I played basketball again, and I might have made it worse. Now the side of the nail is coming off (its a yellowish color). If it comes off will my toenail grow back? If so how long? Will my toenail grow back?
I had smashed up my ankle and by the time i took off my cast, my nail actually fell off...ew. Though it did eventually start growing back like other nails but had taken atleast a year for it to start looking normal. Was it your big toe that smashed up because i can imagine that taking longer then other toes. Will my toenail grow back?
It usually takes a yr for a toe nail to grow all the way back and 6 months for a finger nail to grow back. If you have a piece still hanging on bandage it or use medical tape to protect it so that it doesn't rip off but falls off naturally.
It probably will. YOu would have to destroy the root in order for it not to grow back
It sure should. My daughter lost hers.

    Will my toenail regrow?

I jammed my big toe about a week ago.. and im afraid I might lose the nail. Its still on there right now, but the top half isnt attached to the skin anymore. Will it just grow out or fall off? And if it does fall completely off will my toenail regrow completely? Will my toenail regrow?
I had that happpen, and my whole nail turned like a blue/black color and fell off (I was 13 at the time) my toenail grew back very quickly, if I remember correctly is only took a few months. :)Will my toenail regrow?
Yes it'll grow back! It may fall off, but it'll come back in, just may take some time!

    Recurring ingrown toenail?

ok, in runs in my family to have ingrown toenails quite often and its getting annoying. ive had all my toes ingrown by now and ive even had to get part of one of my toenails cut off. What can i do to prevent this?Recurring ingrown toenail?
Proper nail cutting should prevent it. But once you got it, you'll need a simple surgical procedure involving excision of the edge of the nail and the adjacent skin right down to the base and suturing. Simple avulsion of the nail will make it recur. So see your doctor and good luck.Recurring ingrown toenail?
The biggest reason a person get's ingrown toenails is because they cut their toenails wrong.

Instead of cutting your toenail in a U shape (with the edges curved) you want to cut your toenails as flat as possible to avoid the edge of your toenail from growing into your skin. Good luck!
you need to cut them, straight across. and not in a U, that is what causes it.
Don't Tell anyone.....I just threw up a little.

he could have gotten hit there, and it started bleeding. The blood dries up and makes that purple colour . If he is sure that he didn't get hit may i suggest a doctor.

edit; you may not even notice it's bleeding. This is because the blood is underneath the nail, and you can't see it. Then again you may have seen it.Child's Toenail turning dark?? Help Please?

  • In-grown toenail problem...details inside?

Ok, in October 08 I got an ingrown toenail and got it cut out immediately by a professional doctor. Now like a week ago, the side of my toe is green. I haven't touched it and my mom is scheduling a doctor's appointment. Any ideas as to what it could be and what the doctor might do?In-grown toenail problem...details inside?
It's infected and will be drained by the doctor. Quite unpleasant, I've had it done. Best to listen to your doctor and do what you're told to do so you won't be in pain any more.

    After ingrown toenail surgery ?

i had the side of ingrown toenail removed three days ago and i slept the three nights by elevating my foot, should i continue?

is it normal for the spot where the nail was removed to hurt when you push on it? its not bleeding or anything, just hurts when you push on itAfter ingrown toenail surgery ?
I had both sides of my big toe off. The sides were both growing down in my skin. I don't think it would be necessary to continue to elevate your foot. I did at first, but if you feel it's more comfortable that way I suppose you can continue doing that.

Yeah, I think it's normal for it to be sensitive to the touch. My toe was like that for a while, so just give it time.

Hope this helps. After ingrown toenail surgery ?
It will heal just don''t push on it!

Aside from its effects on the nail- what's so bad about toenail fungus? I like it- I like peeling off my nails

a constant fungal infection in your body will do your overall health a great deal of harm in the long run. fungus in your body is a parasite. it competes with the good bacteria that you need for the same food. namely carbohydrates. it kills the good bacteria with its wastes, called mycotoxins. these mycotoxins will cause your cholesterol to be extremely high. there are many negative health problems associated with fungal infections. i suggest you read a book called the fungus link. i have been battling this for over 30 years. it caused me to become very ill. i developed fibromyalgia, which at times was crippling. my cholesterol was 297. you must address this asap.Aside from its effects on the nail- what's so bad about toenail fungus? Go to the hospital immediately. The puncture is minor compared with the infection potential.
Go to the hospital of course. At minimum he needs a tetanus shot.
Like she said, Go TO THE HOSPITAL! If this is not taken care of immediately, his whole foot could become infected.

  • Ingrown toenail? what to do?

i have an ingrown toenail and its really starting to hurt. what should i do about it?Ingrown toenail? what to do?
    see the doctor

they won't have to do anything major

if its not that bad yet

just dont wait till its too lateIngrown toenail? what to do?
you need to keep adding alcohol to it and leave it to grow and when you cut it you need to cut straight and not cut the corners because if you keep cutting the corners they will grow and go in your skin and it will hurt a lot you could even go through surgery because of it. so you need to be careful the way you cut them. cut straight. that has happened to me but i did same thing put alcohol etc and its fine now. i actually thought that my toenail was starting to rut coz it went all brown and scary but yeah its fine now.
    I sympathise with your pain.

You need to visit your doctor. Explain to them what you think it is and they will look at it and decide what to do. It will either require a simple cut and pull measure, or, if you have left it for too long they will give you local anaesthetic injections and perform a mini op in your toe nail (i don't remember what it is called). It involves slicing the toenail downwards then removing the whole side of it right down to the root. This should hopefully mean it will not grow again - but no guarantees. The toe will not look deformed and once it has healed, no one should be able to tell what you had done.

Yes, it is painful and hurt but the relief afterwards.....Oh! *sighs* it was worth it. Don't leave it for 9 months like i did and let it become so infected you need several courses of antibiotics to kill the infection. Trust me, it sounds scary but so worth it in the end.

Further, ensure to cut your toenails correctly in the future to prevent it happening again. Good luck.
heree are the steppss! you have twoo chices! call o a doctor or do it by yiurself! =) the steps are:

    1.

    Step 1

Wipe your instruments off with alcohol or betadine. Be sure to get the undersides of your nail clippers, as that is the cutting surface that will be against your skin.

    2.

    Step 2

Put 2 capfuls of povidone-iodine (Betadine) solution, into 1/2 gal. warm water. Put your foot in the water and soak for 10 minutes.

    3.

    Step 3

Dry foot thoroughly and then insert nail clippers under the nail border.

    4.

    Step 4

Clip out the ingrown toenail at a slight angle. Try not to cut your skin - keep the bottom of the clipper as close to the bottom of the nail plate as possible.

    5.

    Step 5

Grasp the corner and gently pull it out, once the nail is cut.

    6.

    Step 6

Wipe the area gently with an alcohol or a betadine-soaked gauze pad or cotton swab.

    7.

    Step 7

Soak your toe for 20 minutes each day in the Betadine solution for three days, or until soreness is gone. After soaking, dry gently and apply an adhesive bandage and some antibiotic cream.

    8.

    Step 8

Insert a sliver of cotton between the nail and the skin, for a few days. This will keep pressure off the toe. Remove the cotton as soon as the nail begins to grow out and away from the toe.

    9.

    Step 9

Wear loose shoes or go barefoot as much as possible, while your toenail is healing. Your goal is to eliminate any pressure from pushing against your toe.

pd: See your podiatrist for chronic ingrown toenails. He may manipulate and elevate the end of your nail to prevent pressure on soft toe tissue, or correct the problem surgically.
Take some cotton and roll it into a strip the size of the nail, it should be about the thickness of a wooden toothpick, then with an actual wooden toothpick CAREFULLY and GENTLY push the cotton roll between the nail and the skin/flesh of the toe.

You must leave it there until the nail grows over the cotton, replace after showering or bathing.
You need to see a doctor or podiatrist. Do not try to remove it yourself, you can cause more serious problems and infection.

Until you can see a doctor, soak it in warm salt water. Use 1 tablespoon of table salt per pint of warm water. Soak for 10 minutes then apply an antibiotic ointment and a band aid.
You need to go to the doctor to remove an ingrown toe nail unless it is not that badly started which in that case you can take care of it yourself
do not touch it and go to the doctor because if you try to cut it, it will grow back deeper so go straight to the doctor
You need to go to the doctors but in the meantime bathe it in warm salty water.

My toenail on my big toe has come off. Help!?

Is is bloody and looks as if it is starting to ooze. Yuck. It is a weekend, and I am afraid that I won't be able to get into a podiatrist for a few days at the earliest. What should I do?My toenail on my big toe has come off. Help!?
It's always wise to look for someone that knows what to do.Like a family doctor. When you say that your toenail came off, do you mean totally come off or just crack up? If it has totally came off, apply some antiseptic put some bandages on it.Remember to change your bandages daily! If you meant cracked and bleeding, get someone who knows what to do, cut off the cracked part/pull the whole thing out, and apply antiseptic and put a bandage. It'll soon grow back!My toenail on my big toe has come off. Help!?
Alternatively stop panicking. Stick some antiseptic on it and put a dressing on. Your toenail will grow back. Well, mine always does.

Happens frequently when doing long distance walks.
Get yourself to the emergency room, right now. There is no sense in waiting to have a medical person give this an evaluation.

    Ingrown toenail...?

is there any good remedies for a ingrown toenail? my toe really hurts! lolIngrown toenail...?
hey, i'm diabetic and i always get these! my podiatrist recommended salty water i think its like 1T to 1L of water and just soak your feet for a while. and then try to push the skin back. make sure you always cut straight across when trimming your nails otherwise it'll get worse.Ingrown toenail...?
You should go to a pediatrist as soon as possible. I had one over the summer, and i waited it out and tried home remedies, and it eventually got infected. If you go, they numb you with four shots in the major nerve areas, and then remove the nail, besides the pain after the procedure, and the pain of the novacaine shots, the procedure is painless. Its not too bad.
I tell ya what, if you ever find out, let me know lol. Other than a foot doctor to remove it, I have no ideas of how to care for one. My toe nails on my big toes grow into my skin on the sides and it does hurt. God Bless!!!

    My toenail flipped off?

My big toenail is broken half way. I was playing basketball barefoot in sandals and my nail was long. I accidently kicked the ball right on the part that was long. Half of my toenail detached from the skin.

Right now i have it wrapped up in a huge bandaid with some kind of medication on it that is supposed to speed up the healing process.

Have this ever happened to you or someone you know and will my nail attach back onto the skin or will it fall off by itself? My toenail flipped off?
it'll fall off, don't worry about it too much. once my nail came completely off, it sucks. just wait, it'll grow backMy toenail flipped off?
it will fall off by itself, or you can trim it off. No bog deal, toenails grow back fairly quickly.

    Ingrowen toenail cures?? HELP?

my right big toe always gets infected and it is really starting to anoy me. i have looked at it and i cant see any ingrown toe nail but cant have a real good look because it hurts too much. has any one got a home remedy that you think will work? thank you!!!Ingrowen toenail cures?? HELP?
    Home care

In mild cases (not including the severe cases as in the photos above), doctors recommend daily soaking of the affected digit in a mixture of warm water and Epsom salts and applying an over-the-counter antiseptic. This might allow the nail to grow out so it may be trimmed properly and the flesh to heal. Also Dettol instant Hand sanitizer has been known to be effective in the treatment of minor cases. Note that infection may be somewhat difficult to prevent in cleaning and treating ingrown nails owing to the warm, dark, and damp environment in shoes. Peroxide is immediately effective to help clean minor infections but iodine is more effective in the long term as it continues to prevent bacterial growth even after it is dry. [N.B.: Iodine should not be used on deep wounds. In such cases a physician or podiatrist should be consulted.] Also, bandages can help keep out bacteria. [N.B. One should never apply any of the new types of spray-on bandages to ingrown nails that show any discharge - preventing drainage will likely cause intense swelling and pain. Removal of spray-on bandages can be achieved with common rubbing alcohol.]

Some doctors will apply silver nitrate to granulation tissue (overgrowth of irritated tissue at the side of the nail. This may look like reddish cauliflower, bleeds easily). This may shrink and or remove this sensitive overgrown tissue at the side of the nail.

These home remedies are, in serious cases, ineffective: when the flesh is far too swollen and infected these procedures will not work. Thus, these more severe cases, such as when the area around the nail becomes infected or the nail will not grow back properly, must be treated by a professional and the patient should avoid repeated attempts at this type of 'bathroom surgery.'Ingrowen toenail cures?? HELP?
Sometimes the initial treatment for ingrown toenails can be safely performed right at home. However, home treatment is very strongly discouraged if you think you have an infection, or if you have a medical condition that puts your feet at high risk鈥攆or example, diabetes, nerve damage in the foot, or poor circulation.

You can try soaking your foot in room-temperature water (add Epsom鈥檚 salt if you wish), and gently massage the side of the nail fold to help reduce the inflammation. You can do this simple home therapy if you do not have infection or above mentioned conditions.

To prevent ingrows to develop always cut your nail straight across and never cut your nails short too much
Try soaking your toe in really hot water, as hot as you can bear it. That's what my doctor told me to do for my ingrown toenail and it worked. You have to keep doing it though. I'd get a doctor to look at it though just in case it isn't an ingrown toenail. And if it is regularly infected you may need antibiotics or something to kill the bacteria
D:! my mom and brother always get ingrown nails, and yes, i heard it's really painful to remove them, but then! when you do, wash your toe well first then apply betadine (so it doesn't get infected), then work on it. if you don't want it with betadine yet, then wash it well first, but after you DO remove it, DO apply betadine. it prevents infection and pain D:

    hope this helps :)!
Might be a nail fungus- see your GP or a chiropodist. Cut your toenails straight across. Might also be badly fitting shoes?
for ingrowing toe nail better consult your surgeon

  • Does toenail fungus ever go away? I know...gross.?

It just keeps getting worse, but I don't want to go to the doctor. Is there ANYTHING that will cure it?Does toenail fungus ever go away? I know...gross.?
you cant do much of anything on your own...i would definitely go to a doctor and get them to check it out b/c it can get so bad and eat away your toenail and spread to other parts of your bodyDoes toenail fungus ever go away? I know...gross.?
toenail fungus go away only if you take proper treatment.

    1.avoid wetness of toes

    2.dont use socks etc.

3.take oral griseofulvin in therapeutic doses

minimum 6 weeks. You may need longer period also.

    4.local antifungal(tolnafatate)
Put Vicks Vaporub on it twice a day........I would not bandage it though. Another possibility would be tea tree oil.......buy at a health food store.
Just go to your local pharmacy and look in the nail section. There will be a gel or polish you can use that is anti-fungal, and it will clear right up.
I've read over and over again on the Dr. Gott column in my newspaper that many people have had great success with Vicks Vaporub. Put it on the nail once or twice a day and it will eventually clear up. I don't know any more than that but I'm sure you could type it into yahoo and get more info.
yes it will go away if you cut your toenail short as possible and very often. clean it with salt water and try to avoid your feet from sweating too much
    you need an anti-fungal cream

if you cant find one over the counter... get RAW garlic...

    Garlic is a natural anti-fungal

so eat (fresh) garlic on everything you can and also mash a clove or two and put it on the fungus daily... that should kill it

    good luck
If its under the nail, you have to goto a doctor. I mean you can try soaking your feet in bleech for like 10 minutes for a week, but if its under the nail, its not going to help it. The only thing that has been proven to help fungus under the nail is prescription medications such as Lamasil (tablets, not the over the counter sprays or creams).
a podiatrist told me that NO topical treatments will work, it must be treated internally via prescription pills (lamisil, i think)...i have had it go away on its own, when i was younger...he said it was because i had an incredible immune system, and it will not go away on its own as i get older (and he was right...it's here to stay now)...i won't take the medicine for it, the side effects aren't worth it to me...i just keep those suckers polished! as far as being embarrassed about it...the same podiatrist also told me that if you live to be elderly...you will almost certainly get toenail fungus before your life is over...nearly everyone gets it in old age...

My mom says I have an ingrown toenail. Which really sucks because i hate feet! I would freak if a doctor or someone touched my feet. What can I do to remove it easily myself and how far back do i have to go? Will it bleed and hurt for a while? and how can I keep it from coming back?Ingrown toenail help?
you might try this. Sometimes it works. Soak your toe in warm salt water for a little while. When the skin is soft, gently push the skin away from the nail, and gently lift the corner of the toenail. You can lift it back as far as you can without extreme pain. Don't tear it off with your hands. LOL Hopefully this will remove the offending part of the nail from the skin and it will continue to grow normally. It shouldn't bleed or hurt alot. If that doesn't work you may have to see a doctor. That will hurt and bleed. Usually it's poorly fitting shoes that cause ingrown toenails. Buy some different shoes if you can.

How to make your toenails feel better on pointe?

when your a ballerina and you go on pointe how do you make toenails feel better while your on pointeHow to make your toenails feel better on pointe?
I keep my toenails short. (a very thin sliver of white is left)

I file the nail bed of all my toe nails, so the nails aren't too thick, it just makes them thinner to relieve some of the pressure.

I ensure that my toe padding is sufficient (I use lambs wool, so sometimes i wash and dry it so it can get fluffy again; there are lots of other options too like gel padding).

I keep lifted in my shoe to make sure I don't sink into my shoe or crunch my toes.

Pointe may never be painless, so I usually soak my feet in cold water with ice once a week.

    Ingrown toenail?

I have an ingrown toenail and it is extremelly painfull. Any advice other than take advil?Ingrown toenail?
You need to see a chiropodist to have it cut out but they usually grow back. I had both of my big toenails removed as i was having so much trouble with them, it's the best thing i done!Ingrown toenail?
Go buy some Vitamin E capsules and faithfully apply the oil each day. Use a pin to puncture the capsule. Hopefully this may take away the pain also. The stronger the IU's dose you can get, the better. Good Luck!
tough it out and get rid of it...it'll bleed (for a second) but at least you'll be rid of it....

i had the same problem....i soak my foot in warm to slightly hot water(that softens the toenail making it easier to get out) then you use clippers to cut the nail but not all the way....you cut it partially and pull the rest to the side where it's ingrown...then you take a narrow object, such as a nail file or scissors...and you dig the nail out and cut it...it's easier said than done but so worth the pain....i don't have the problem anymore but my dad gave me the advice and it worked.....hope it helps...

*the longer you wait to fix it, the more painful it will get....
Go see a foot doctor. Nowadays, if you get them cut out, the doctor will put in some chemical so that they can no longer grow back at all in the ingrown parts. I had this done a few years ago and have not had any problems or any regrowth in the problem parts of the nail.
I have advice but you probably won't like it. The only person I know who has been able to successfully do it is me. I take alcohol and swab the area. Then I take a straight pin and burn the tip. I then take the straight pin and put it into the ingrown toenail area. This causes pus to come out. I squeeze all the pus out and then I put some antibiotic cream and wrap it. Everyday I wash it, apply more antibiotic cream and bandage it. The first day when I poke it with the pin, it hurts alot but then the next day the pain is totally gone. You can also go to the doctor and he will basically do the same thing but he will charge you.

  • My toenail is coming off! But it's stuck!!?

Today in Trampolining at school I was jumping and my nail got caught in the little holes in the trampoline. I immediately put an alcohol pad and then bandaged my toe and continued to jump. But it still hurt. I came back home and I noticed the nail turned whitish and was coming off!

    What do I do?

Help!My toenail is coming off! But it's stuck!!?
Keep a bandaid on it a few days longer. There is a small chance that it will re-attach itself. If not, it will turn black and fall off on its own. No big deal, but try not to mess with it. you could end up hurting yourself worse or getting a nasty infection. If the toenail does fall off, the the toe bandaged during the day while you wear shoes. At night and when you go to bed, let it ';air-out';. Keep it clean and dry and you'll be fine.My toenail is coming off! But it's stuck!!?
Take a piece of ice and stick it on your skin under the nail.

    Then rip it off.

    After its numb though.

    Its works.
u should do som3thing to numb it and th3n pull ur nail compl3tly off.... or k33p it bandag3d till u s33 a doctor.... but mak3 an apointm3nt right away
i think you shouldn't worry cause it happened to me and in 4 days it will be better trust me

    Ingrown Toenail surgery?

I have two ingrown toenails (1 on each big toe) because i used to play soccer. Now they are both infected pretty badly and i know i will have to get them removed and treated. I have never had surgery or any other kind of procedure and i was wandering what happens. Please help, i was never a big fan of needles or doctors so it would help if i knew what was going to happen. ThanksIngrown Toenail surgery?
    hello,

I think I can help when I was younger maybe 14 I had Allot of trouble with both my big toes like you and had to see a podiatrist he 1st gave me a antibiotic to make the infection go away and after that he operated on them it didn't hurt that much he used a local to numb it so you don't feel anything so if you can stand that you'll be ok and i had to stay off my feet witch made me happy cuz i didn't go to school hehehe after sometime though they came back am not sure if that happen to you so the doctor went in and had to remove the root from the inner part of both my big toes I was scared but after wards you cant even tell and haven't had any problems since he did that! maybe that will be you're best option go see a podiatrist and if this is a recurring problem ask him about removing the root don't worry it doesn't hurt and after a week you will be all better tc best of health ryIngrown Toenail surgery?
My husband had the toenail surgery where they remove the nail on the sides so that they don't grow back. They did not take the whole nail off. He got one shot in each toe to numb it. It hurts once the numbing wears off but the doctor gave him some good pain killers.
have you tried cutting a V in the middle of each nail? my husband has bad ingrowns too and he tried this and the nails slowly started to grow away from the sides and doesn't hurt him as much any more.

good luck though if you do need the surgery!
Unfortunately, I can't tell you there won't be any needle sticks. As I see it, you need to get help now before the infection gets worse. The surgery is minor and you will be sore for a while but will be glad you had it.
talk to your podiatrist about the upcoming surgery. do not leave the office until you understand everything the doctor tells you.

    Ingrowing Toenail Help?

I am having the operation to get rid of my ingrowing toenails. They are going to cut half of the nail off and abit of the nail bed. Once you have had this op I heard you are not allowed to exercise or participate in activities for a month after wards. Is this true ????Ingrowing Toenail Help?
ok, no, its not true. i had this done, and its realy not bad at all. it didnt hurt for me, and my doctor said i could do what ever i wanted just as long as im mindfull of my toes, such as not wearing sandals and walking in sand kind of thing. u'll be fine. the worst part of the entire thing is when they stick the needle in ur toe to inject an anestetic to numb it. after care is a breeze as well. hope this helps!Ingrowing Toenail Help?
It was a couple weeks for me...and then only light exercise until it fully recovered.

So no, you should be able to do what you normally do within a few days, a month sounds a little exaggerated.
    it is true, yes
    talk to your doctor
yeah. I've had this surgery and I couldn't do **** for about 40 days =/

    and it hurts like F U C K

My toenail is kinda half ripped off...?

So, I looked at my toe this morning, and there was blood and a toenail, just attached to the toe along one side...

I was wondering, is it best to just whack a band-aid on, or should I take the whole toenail off so it's not just dangling? My toenail is kinda half ripped off...?
Um i would take it off. But don't just rip it off! Gently cut it off with toenail clippers. Clean it, of course. With peroxide. That's what I used when mine came off. And then put on a band aid :)My toenail is kinda half ripped off...?
There is no point in bandaiding it ... it won't reconnect. Clip it off, and your toenail's missing piece will slowly grow back. It takes a while, but it will grow back. And yeah, clean it like that other person said.
Which toe is it? If its a small one, don't worry, just take that sucker off. Big toes however require more attention unfortunately.
    take it off!!

    Ingrown Toenail?

A friend of mine has an ingrown toenail and it is a chronic condition. She can't really afford to get the nail removal surgery every six months and the crap that they put on her toe(I assume it's NaOH or Phenol) doesn't work on her, however unlikely that sounds. I know that prices are different for every doctor everywhere, but I'd like to know what some of you have paid for a matrixectomy(The matrix is where the nail grows from) or similar procedures. I just need to form a ballpark figure. She's desperate and I need as many people to help me as possible.

    Thank youIngrown Toenail?
Does the doctor put the solution on more than once? If not, then the doctor messed up. She should NOT have to have it done more than once every six months.

The podiatrist I went to said 3% of the population can have a recurrence because they are immune to the solution. I'd find out if there are other solutions.Ingrown Toenail?
there are special long, narrow clippers that are designed to reach in and clip the ingrown nail. i have ingrowns on both my big toes. these clippers are heaven sent as long as i clip them every month. it might hurt and bleed at first digging them out but it gets better after a while
i had a chronic case also and my doctor said i had to get surgery in a week and to NOT TRY AND FIX IT. well i though how bad can it be right? so i took some tweezers knives and a razor blade along with a pair of toe nail clippers and got digging.... don't try this i ended up is massive pain and had to get surgery early :)
my daughter had to have the matrix thing done about a year ago on her left great toe, i was unaware it was called that, anyway, our insurance covered it but the cost in PA at a hospital, she was put under general anesthesia because she was 6 at the time and the grand total cost was just under $5,000.00 and i think our deductible for the O.R. was either 200.00 or 250.00. the anethesiologist was around 400.00 and it was a teaching hospital so we were charged an additional 150.00 possibly 175.00 for student nurses and doctors to observe.
Usually a doctor will cut away the nail and apply a medicine that kills the growth of the matrix in that area.
    I feel for her!

I went through a HORRIBLE phase of that, about 2 or 3 years ago. It was my big toe that would get infected.

I was only 11 at the time, so it really hindered my ability to partake in activies a regular kid enjoys.

I had the procedure that only temporarily fixes the problem, in hopes that the body will fix it itself. Although, it never did, so we decided to go ahead and do the permanent procedure, (the matrixectomy).

it cost about $500 CDN, I beleive. I'm only 14, so I'm not sure what my mom paid.

    good luck!
I have had this trouble and an old timer taught me a better way to clip my nails. Instead of rounding or cutting them flat across the top. Make U shaped cut so the nail is higher on both ends when I did that the nails stopped growing into the sides of the toe.

    Dead Toenail. . .Now ripped?

I had a dead big toenail and now I have ripped it partially off. However, i put it back down in hopes that it will re attach. Should I take it off or leave it on there?? There is new growth coming in behind it as well. Dead Toenail. . .Now ripped?
Leave it on there. u can damage the new one if you mess with it. I had one too and the doc will tell you to leave it be...the new one will push it righ off in time...Dead Toenail. . .Now ripped?

  • Injured toenail question?

about 20 years ago, i dropped a can on my great toe and ever since then the nail has been brittle and miscolored. I stubbed my toe really hard once and the entire nail fell off and when it grew back it was still brittle and miscolored. Is there anything I can do to make it look normal? I have never worn sandals or shoes that show my toes because of this!Injured toenail question?
If you go to the doctor, they will want to remove it, and then hope a better one grows in. That usually does not happen. I had my big toe slammed in the door when I was 4. It was always ugly, discolored and didn't grow right. It did fall off back then. I kept them polished always. In my 20's I started using the 3-way buffer to smooth it out and shine it. I think the oxygen helped it. It did start growing and looking normal.. You can't tell it was ever weird. I have kept it up another 20+ years, and it still looks great. I now use the nail file for acrylic nails, (it's super rough, and sands it down fast) smooth the whole nail out with that first, then use the 3-way nail buffer stick to polish it. I get them at Sally's, the beauty supply store, for a buck.Injured toenail question?

My toenail is giving me extreme pain???

What should i do??? My toenail was cut down too short %26amp; has grown back since. BUT... now it stings when i bend it %26amp; the skin underneath is pink %26amp; sensitive. What should i do??? Please help!!!!!!My toenail is giving me extreme pain???
If the nail bed has become infected, then you'll probably need antibiotics for it; you may be able to get by with keeping the toe protected with a bandage and using antibiotic ointment.

If it's not infected (not hot to the touch), you may be able to use a product called ';New Skin'; to cover it until it grows back out a little bit. It's kind of like thick, flexible nail polish, but it goes on the skin rather than on the nail. It contains oil of clove to help with the pain, and remains flexible after it dries. I play the piano, and use it on my fingers if I get a cut or have a nail tear (I have very soft nails) so that I can go on practicing even with a too-deep nail break or hangnail. You should be able to get it at most drugstores in the same area as bandaids or plasters are sold. It has a very strong odor until it dries, by the way; that's normal for this product. My toenail is giving me extreme pain???
    its probably aningrown toenail, you can go to the doctors and they can fix it up quick, or you can try yourself by goolge-ing ';ingrown toenails etc..';
You obviously have an infection. Go to the docs and get antibotics.

    Ingrown toenail help?

I had an ingrown toenail, and it got infected so i soaked it in warm water and put an antiseptic cream on it, it cleared up quite a bit and looked way better than before. It doesn't hurt anymore however it's still a bit swollen and red.

Yes,the nail is growing into the skin. With a pair of nail clippers cut a triangle or wedge of nail out on the inside of the toe,you might have to get someone to do it for you. This will stop the redness and infection, and the nail will grow correctly and you should have no further problemsIngrown toenail help?

    Ingrown Toenail Proceedures?

Has anyone ever had an ingrown toenail surgically cut out? Where they numb you with cold spray and then give you a shot in the toe then cut out the ingrown toenail? If so, please be honest with me and let me know how bad the pain is from the shot? I am terrified of shots, especially in such a delicate place such as the top of my big toe (ouch!!!)Ingrown Toenail Proceedures?
I have had my done two ways.

One in the local podatrist office with a local anaesthetic. The other in Theatre under sedation 2 weeks later.

I will be truthful and say the one under sedation was much, much better.

I am terrified of needles, although I am a nurse, so was freaking out that they were going to inject into my toe. But it really is no worse than the Dentist.

They can numb it up a little with cream before the shot of local. BUT ASK FIRST as they don't automatically do it.

I just had to have a big infection removed from the side of my tornail and needed a local because it was so painful. But I lost it. I couldn't look and started sweeting and doing the deep breathing we teach patients. It worked.

Let them know you are scared. They are very sympathetic to this fact. No one likes these injections.

The big toe really isn't the most painful place to get a shot of Local.

Go and get some Zylocan Gel, a cheap local anaesthetic that you apply to the skin so it numbs the dermis, from the chemist first and apply this 30 minutes before your appointment. Wear thongs to stop it rubbing off and you will need to wear them afterwards. And let them know that you have applied some typical local aneaesthetic. You will still feel the injection but not as much. When they are giving the injection, close your eyes and slowly breath in your nose and out through your lips to relax slightly.

    Good luck.Ingrown Toenail Proceedures?
i had one removed a week ago, they didnt give me anything for pain.they grabbed my toenail with a pair of surgicall plyers and snatched it out.blood went every where.i couldnt walk for 3 days.doc told me to take asprin for the pain.i cant even put a sock on that foot it hurts so bad.every time i try to walk it starts bleeding again.i dont think it would have hurt any worse if they had cut the whole toe off.
hmm. my cousin had that happen to him and i remember he couldnt walk on it for a while or it would bleed and he was supposed to use crutches but he didnt. he had to have gauze rapped around it for like 2wks maybe? but maybe urs isnt as serious so...idk. good luck!
I had my big toes done. They pre-numb, and then inject with a needle. (Not fun, but not much worse than the dentist.) Then, she took something like a scissors and cut down the sides of the nail. Then she put some sort of acid on the root area, so the nail wouldn't grow back.

I had to wear sandals for a day or 2.

Worked well to keep ingrown nails from happening (did it over 4 years ago). However, the side edge is kind-of weak, and I sometimes have to trim that stuff.
Its not too bad if they use the cold spray, but if they dont it does sting pretty good, but only for a moment. It starts getting numb pretty fast, and if you close your eyes, all you feel is the prick, then it stings for a minute, then nothing.

Your toe will feel sore after they cut out the ingrown toenail, make sure that you wear comfy shoes for the next little bit. Even if you have to go to Walmart and buy a cheapie pair.

Good Luck! Ingrown nails are NOT fun.

    EDIT:

They wont use acid, unless you have chronic ingrown toenails. YOU DONT WANT THAT!!! Your toenail wont grow back there. They DO wrap it in gauze, but I NEVER had to walk around on crutches, and I NEVER really bled that badly either, I was just sore.
Ingrown toenails are easy to take care after taken out. I have it done and is not painful. You are going to fill much better. About the shot, just don't look at your foot. Believe me you are going to feel much, much better. :-)
I had it done.they put medicine on your skin on the toe there going to do then they let it get numb and give you a shot then the cut the side of your toenail if it still hurts they numb you again.then when your done they give you a shot so you wont fell it for awhile it was wonderful.then you have rest with your feet up that day after that you can walk around

I need advice on my ingrowing toenail?

i got an ingrowing toe nail on both sidesof nail on my big toe having it removed in jauary what can i do to help it in mean while as very painful red, swollen and leaking gunkI need advice on my ingrowing toenail?
Definitely go see the doctor in Jan.,in the mean time keep soaking it it warm water and if you can find some type of antibiotic ear-drops,..yes ear-drops,that's what my podiatrist prescribed for me,put drops on the infected are to minimize the infection.however this will not eliminate the problemI need advice on my ingrowing toenail?
I know that condition is VERY painful! I would suggest that you soak your foot several times per day in hot water with epsom salts dissolved in it. If you don't have epsom salts, use regular table salt.

After soaking, pour a generous amount of hydrogen peroxide over the toenail. When the toe is dry, apply antibiotic ointment over the nail. Then keep it clean by wrapping it with clean gauze or another bandaging material.

Try to avoid wearing close-toed shoes. If you must wear shoes, don't wear tight ones that rub against your sore toe. Also, cushion it with cotton and gauze.

It takes alot of care, but you can clear up alot of the swelling and infection if you use these treatments several times per day. Even though it is a hassle, it will be worth the trouble when you see how much better your toe feels after a few times of treating it.

Good luck. I hope your doctor takes good care of you in January. After the nail grows back in you can avoid ingrown nails in the future by NOT trimming your toenails too short and by avoiding shoes that rub against the top of your nail. Also, never ';pick'; at your toenails. If they need a trim, be sure to use clippers. And, remember, not too short!
I suppose this is an emegency because of the infection. Why wait till January?
Yes aren't they painful, if it is red and leaking junk then it sounds like an infection, i got 2 of those waiting to get it chopped, you need to see the doc again, why do you have to wait so long to get it done? waiting so long will only give you more infections.

Question about what to do after toenail falls off on big toe???

I went on a 10 mile walk about 1 1/2 mnths ago and I wore some shoes that I have not worn for a while, like since before I had my twins I think my feet got bigger after that pregnancy(weird I know) but anyway they were kind of small but I didn't notice until a while after that my toe was hurting, and a few days later I noticed blood under the nail and a blister, and it did pop but now yesterday almost the whole nail feell off, do you think it is ok to paint over the skin or put fake over it, or should I just wait for it to grow back, it doen't look groos or anything like I thought it would, but I do have a wedding to go to in the middle of Sep. so I hope it's back by that time. THanks for your answers!Question about what to do after toenail falls off on big toe???
Do not paint it or get acrylics. Any place that would put an acrylic on that is not reputable.

Let it breathe. Watch it to make sure it doesn't get infected.Question about what to do after toenail falls off on big toe???
    Just leave it alone.
you should wait for it to grow back....if you put stuff on it, it might take longer for it to grow.

  • Ingrown toenail surgery?

Hey I have an ingrown toenail problem on my left toe and on the left corner. I would say that my toe is not very swollen and I see no pus coming out. I have to go get surgery on it next week. Can anyone explain to me how the surgery works and if there is any pain during the surgery?Ingrown toenail surgery?
I spent many years of my life fitting shoes and prescription footwear. I have enjoyed helping people with their foot problems. You have a condition commonly known to doctors as ';onychocryptosis'; ingrown toenails.Surgery in my opinion is something to consider only as a last result. I have often heard it said that as Americans we have become a knife happy society. We are also into instant gratification on an instant solution to almost any problem. I can tell you that as a result of 40 years worth of conversations with people who have had various different types of surgeries successfully vs. those who were greatly disappointed that there are perhaps as many as 25 surgeries performed for each one that should be considered absolutely necessary. I have a reference site listed below that I wish to share with you. I have never once disagreed with any of the information that they have available here.Ingrown toenail surgery?
It's not fun. I had both of them done last year. I had it done as an out patient in the hospital. They tell you to hop on the table, then they freeze your toe with needles. That's the worst part. Then, in my case, the doctor put a small incision at the bottom of your toe nail, lifted the whole nail from the nail bed, cut the edge off, and yanked it out through the incision at th bottom. Then, they bandage your toe, and send you on your way. The give you some tylenol 3 or other pain killer, and you're fine. It's pretty sore for the first few days, but, doesn't last long.
Its painless, they shoot your toe up with novicain. Then they cut the toe nail away from the corner where the problem is. Then they tell you the best piece of advice ever; cut your nails STRAIGHT across. The reason nails get ';ingrown'; is when you screw up cutting them and you create a sharp spike of nail that grows into your skin. Leave the corner of your nail so its beyond the skin and the problem will go away!
wow i have the same thing, same foot, big toe. i am curious why your getting surgery and what they are going to do. will you please let me know?
When I had this done (twice) I had a doctor numb it with an injection and I almost kicked him in the face cuz it hurt so bad. But after that I didn't feel a thing. He took a pair of flat headed plyer things and wedged it under the nail and took the whole thing off. I had a really bad one that couldn't be saved though so that might be different than what they do for you. I sure felt better than dealing with the ingrown nail though. The second time it got ripped off and they couldn't save it.
I was very young when I had to go through this. It has probably changed since then but what I had to do was they sprayed my toe with this spray that numbed them and then they gave me a shot in the base of my toe near the joint. The doctor went in and just cut out the ingrown part with scissors. I won't lie, it hurt bad but it could've been worse. My husband and brother had this done and they were put to sleep like regular surgery and the entire toenal was removed. It depends on your doctor.
The doctor inserts needles into the to to numb it and the cuts the toe nail out. From what I here, the needle hurts a little, the actual procedure does not, and afterwards the toe feels better due to the ingrown nail being out.
    hello

i had this done on both feet the big toe. ouch anyway

the only pain was when the doctor put the needle in to numb it up the surgery took like five seconds to do im not kidding he counted to five and it was over with. you will get a bandage and sent home with painkillers and antibiotic . the toe will stay numb for several hours then it might start to throb but you should have no more problems. you will do fine.

I cut my toenail too short?

now it is pushing into the skin a little bit.. the nail is too small to cut a v in it because it is my middle toe. What can I do at home to fix this?I cut my toenail too short?
just make sure to keep pushing the skin down like once a day so that the nail doesnt grow into the skin. use rubbing alcohol to keep the area clean if it breaks skin or is irritated. that happens all the time. dont worryI cut my toenail too short?
Say OUCH!!! and wait for it to grow back.
DON'T CUT A ';V'; INTO YOUR NAIL! A few months ago I had a horrible problem with my big toe. I cut the nail too short and it cause both sides of the toenail to become ingrown. Because I am not one to run to the doctor, I tried all of the home remedies, including the ';cutting a V into your nail'; trick. Trust me, it DOES NOT work. Since the nail grows strait up from the nail bed, the V does absolutely nothing except leave your nail looking even more horrible then when you started off. If the nail does not feel ingrown, just let it grow out. If it does start to become ingrown, see a podiatrist immediately.

    Update:

Try soaking your foot in an iodine-salt solution (make the water as hot as you can stand it) for about 10 minutes. As soon as you remove your foot from the water, the skin should be nice and tender so this is the time to try and push the skin back. Also, take a small amount of cotton, roll it up into a log shape, and shove it under the side/s of the nail (you can do this with the help of a pair of tweezers). The other month another or of my toenails started to become ingrown and this regimen saved it.

If you do wind up going to the doctor, this is what they might do:

First, they give you a needle in your toe (since it was my big toe, they gave me about three)

When it is numb, they go in and remove the ingrown side of your nail (you shouldn't feel that at all)

Next they pour acid on the nail be to stop the nail from growing back.

If you do the whole soaking-cotton thing, you should not have to go through this process. I was stubborn and did not go to the doctor when I should have and was in a lot of pain because of it. Good luck!

Is there such thing as a toenail biting habit?

Well I guess there is. There is a swedish saying: the sum of all your addictions remains the same. So you may well have one. However, it's probably nothing to fret about. If you can think of something to stop it, that would help. like wear shoes or socks alot. I mean, there isn't a medical term for it, but its just a psychological thing. no need to worry. Is there such thing as a toenail biting habit?
if you habitually bite your toenails, then yes!

Its pretty gross though. i'd try to stop if I were you. You can buy stuff to stop you biting your nails - just put some of it on your toes.Is there such thing as a toenail biting habit?
i guess anything could be considered a habit if you constantly do it. i really don't know if it has a name but yes there would be such a thing as a toenail biting habit. hope this helps!
Yup, there sure is. A kid I used to babysit for ate the entire nail off of one of his pinkie toes. I could not believe it, but there yah go.
Yes - it is called onychophagia.

Google onychophagia and you will see lots of sites that deal with the subject.
    Probably.

There's something for everyone I suppose?
Yes, but I pity those who do, because that is really a gross habit!
    yes
    I don't know...but that's pretty gross if there is.

Is it a new toenail growing?

i went to take the nail polish off my toenails and noticed it was discolored and it looks like there is a new nail underneath but what im guessing is the old nail is attached to the top. is there a new nail growing and is the one on top going to come off?Is it a new toenail growing?
could be fungus. schedule an appt w/a podiatrist

One off my toenails came completely off tonight and there is a whole new nail under it. Is this normal?

Happens to most people once or twice in their lifetime. It usually happens when you drop something on your toe so many months ago that you don't even remember doing it.

The nail stops growing at the cuticle for a few days while it heals. Then it starts growing again. This causes a break in the nail and the new one can start growing under the other. One off my toenails came completely off tonight and there is a whole new nail under it. Is this normal?
Oh my goodness, I hope you aren't in pain! I'm going to star this one, since its so interesting. Did you have any black spots on your nail that fell off? How do your other toenails look? Personally, I've never had a toenail or fingernail ever fall off. I hope its all alright! One off my toenails came completely off tonight and there is a whole new nail under it. Is this normal?
Thats fine. About 7 years ago i trapped my index finger in a roller at my works (tiredness not stupidity) %26amp; it went black staraightaway. It took 3 months to get back to normal %26amp; I ended up peeling off the nail %26amp; it was ok.
keep it covered in a plaster, any bacteria can easily come in and infect the growing toenail.

the nail probally isnt see-able with a naked eye at the moment, give it a day or 2 and you should start to see it (:
Had you suffered an injury to your toenail? It sometimes happens that the new nail grows in under the old before it comes off. It's nothing to worry about.
It's fine, don't worry about it. Probably your ';pinkie'; toe, right? The old nail was probably just being held in by skin around the nail bed.
i found it normal, it happened to me, but i did dropped something on the nail,
yuw idk if it's normal but i as long as it looks fine don't worry
Its very normal!! You probably banged ur toe and didnt even know it!! Its happened to me before!!
uhh idk i never knew anyone with that problem bu u ould of hit ur toe and the nail might of shifted up soo tht was dead and a ew one grew under it
Ya, it fell off because the other one was growing in (sotra like a tooth), the top was worn out.
no. ur a monster. lmao jk. it has to be normal if it happened rite? geez
    no you are a weirwolf.
ew. I don't know but as long as there is a new one underneath i think it will be ok.

  • What color should I paint my toenails next?

Right now they are an Emerald Green and I'm thinking something Springy. Give me specific brands and colors you like if you want to so I can find them at Walgreens. I know I just asked this earlier in the week, but with the ';maintenance'; I didn't get many answers so I thought I would try again. The best answer from that posting was ';Tickled Pink'; or another shade of pink. What are your thoughts? What color should I paint my toenails next?

My toenail fell of and i need help!?

ok so my toenail fell off at like october, and i haven't been on pointe since. what can i do to get back up since auditions are coming up. and i have already put tape around it and put A LOT of lamswool but it stings! help please! My toenail fell of and i need help!?
I had a fingernail ripped off in a minor industrial accident and the doctor at the time said that in a small percentage of cases nails don't grow back. That is if the growth cells get ripped out with the nail itself. And it may be inhibited from growing back by your continued irritation of the delicate tissues. Give your foot a rest and check with your podiatrist, too.My toenail fell of and i need help!?
Get something for ingrown toenails that lessens the pain.
GO to a podiatrist..they should be able to help you you..good luck sounds like maybe you have a fungus...
LOL. Didn't know a toe nail could fall off ~_~. Sorry but that just seems weird.
    Go see a doctor.
gah!! Has it grown back yet?? Go to the doctors.
