My toenail is piercing my skin on both of my `thumb` toes. I cannot cut the nail and peel as it is alreadu cut like this

Simple, don't clip them. Use nail scissors instead. Due to the narrowness of a pair of nail scissors you should be able to pry them under the ingrown nail, focus on elevating the nail upwards away from the skin with the scissors, after a couple of minutes of this Supplyy cut off the ingrowing ends.
Oh and make sure you do this after you get a shower or a bath as the nail will soften making the whole process much easier and less painful for you.

If you have clean, healthy nail beds you will always look attractive. If you cannnot shower or groom your nails, then that is the day that you might want to try sneakers or closed toe shoes.
You won't be any ';cooler'; with open toe shoes if you have dirty, disgusting nails. You aren't required to wear open toe shoes everyday. Wait until you have time to groom them properly and then show them off.

also, i am in volleyball, so i have to wear volleyball shoes. i heard that you are supposed to keep the toe dry, but my feet sweat alot. is there anything i can put over my toe like a bandaid or something?

Try to pick up some athletic socks that are absorbent, so you can wear them when you are playing volleyball. When you are done playing volleyball, take your volleyball shoes off and wear a pair of flip-flops or sandals so your feet can air out. It might be helpful to maybe wipe them so they are a little dryer with your socks before wearing sandals.
Also-- I have heard that to help prevent ingrown nails, cut them across in a straight line with only a little bit of rounding on the corners.

They numb the toe where the ingrown toe nail is at and very carefully the doc cut the toe nail. In some cases they pull out the whole nail so you wont have to worry about ingrown toe nails...that is up to the patient if they want it done.
Just soak your feet in warm water and carefully pull the skin back from the ingrown toe nail and clip the nail itself...they have special toe nail clippers for toe nails and ingrown toe nails.
soak you foot in hot water and there is a special type of salt sorry cant think of the name and put it in the hot water that always helps me but do it at least a couple of times.....Morgan

my hubby just got his really really bad ingrown toenail cut out by the doctor but now it hurts more what can we do to make it better..they also gave him vicodin and an anit boantics to make sure it doesnt get infected...so does anyone know what we can do to make it feel better..he took the meds and tried to soak it in water but that made it worst. so we were thinking neosprin but not sure

They may be able to give additional advice as I'm sure you're not the only one he's had this happen too. Just watch that area is not infected with pus, increased redness or red streaks from the area. If that's the case, call your MD immediately. You may need a different antibiotic.

I've had all 4 borders of both my big toenails removed AND I worked for a podiatrist for many years. The part that hurts the most really is getting your toe numbed up. After that, you shouldn't feel a thing. If you do, tell your doctor right away!
Since working for a podiatrist, the one thing I would insist on is your doctor should use a chemical on your nail bed where the nail was removed (the doc I work for uses phenol). That stops the nail from just growing back and becoming ingrown again! Your toenail will look a little smaller than it did, but it really shouldn't be noticible.
I've had patients who have played soccer the next day, I even drove to Chicago the same day after having my surgery!

I have had an ingrown toenail for about a year and I don't know what to do I mean I'm going to call the doctors to see when I can get in but I need relief before then. I think I have an ingrown toenail (left foot, big toe). My mom looked at it, and she believe's so too. It's red, and hurts VERY bad- hurts when things touch it or when I walk.
Today's the first day that I've felt it. I took a nail-file type thing (the one on the clippers) and tried going under the nail bed, but I doubt I got it, and I have to take a break it hurts so bad.

When you cut your toenails you need to cut them straight across with no rounded edges. If you have rounded edges then the nail grows into the skin causing an ingrown nail. Theres not much you can do and it should go away on its own. Try soaking it in warm water then using sterilized tweezers gently try picking the nail from under the skin. I had surgery on an ingrown toenail years ago and after the anesthesia wore off it hurt REALLY bad! But the Worst part was going back a few weeks later and they took the packing out!! Oh my god--i'll never forget that pain!

Now I know how to trim them correctly, preventing them from happening again.

That said, Orajel won't likely provide any help. Using an ice-pack in the ten or fifeteen minutes before getting the injection may help. You should tell the doctor how much it bothers you, though. There are some methods and medications that can decrease the discomfort, and the doctor may be willing to use them.

I had ingrown toenails on both sides of both of my big toes for about 5 years, and had various procedures performed as a kid. (my parents were always stubborn when it came to doctors) no pain relief is enough
What procedure are they doing? i had the growth plate on either side of my toe removed, causing it to grow only from the middle and not from the sides and haven't had any issues since. it changed the shape of my toe slightly and having the two of them done separatly and by two different docs doing slightly different made my toes different shapes, but hey, no pain for years. check and see what they're doing, cause if it is simply removing the nail itself, it will probably reoccur.
as for the orajel (assuming similar to bonjella for teething) not sure, i guess it depends on the severity of it, how much open/proud flesh etc. may also sting a bit if open flesh, but your call in the end
I've had the sides of both my big toe-nails removed because they were ingrowing. And as for the pain, it's probably going to get worse before it gets better. I remember being in some pain after the operation for quite a while, especially when people accidentally stand on it.

I had ingrown toenails on both sides of both of my big toes for about 5 years, and had various procedures performed as a kid. (my parents were always stubborn when it came to doctors) no pain relief is enough
What procedure are they doing? i had the growth plate on either side of my toe removed, causing it to grow only from the middle and not from the sides and haven't had any issues since. it changed the shape of my toe slightly and having the two of them done separatly and by two different docs doing slightly different made my toes different shapes, but hey, no pain for years. check and see what they're doing, cause if it is simply removing the nail itself, it will probably reoccur.
as for the orajel (assuming similar to bonjella for teething) not sure, i guess it depends on the severity of it, how much open/proud flesh etc. may also sting a bit if open flesh, but your call in the end
I've had the sides of both my big toe-nails removed because they were ingrowing. And as for the pain, it's probably going to get worse before it gets better. I remember being in some pain after the operation for quite a while, especially when people accidentally stand on it.

Soak your foot in warm water 3-4 times a day.
Use a cotton bud to gently push the skin away from your toenail.
Wear comfortable shoes with enough space around your toes.
Take painkillers, such as paracetamol, or ibuprofen, to relieve any pain.
use Naproxen sodium. great pain reliever. you can by it at wal mart or walgrens

You have to cut the nail straight across not round. If it is already cut you are supposed to put cotton under the nail so that it will not grow back into your skin.
I think the best way to handle these ingrown toenails is to get a pedicure regularly. The technician can see and reach the area better. Also they put Ttree oil on your nails to prevent fungus.

If this does not work and the ingrown nail gets worse, see a foot specialist (podiatrist) or skin specialist (dermatologist).
The doctor may remove part of the nail or extra skin . If the toe is infected, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics. These may be applied to the skin or taken by mouth.
In recurrent cases, your doctor may permanently reshape your nail with chemicals or lasers

at first i just thought i'd banged my toenail somewhere and didn't think anything of it. but it's been several weeks and my right toenail is still almost completely purple. in fact, it's not the nail so much as the skin underneath (since it hasnt moved as the nail has grown). i have a similar problem with my left toenail, only it appears on a much smaller area of skin. i can't remember when they appeared or what caused it, and they're both entirely painless. they're just... purple

I suck at cutting my nails. Everytime I cut my toenails, it has to be cut deeper and deeper to the point where i cant reach it, which is about halfway. Is there any way to fix this? For example, can i just get a pedicure, will they fix it for me?Toenail problem?

Toenail about to come off help!!?
First i seen a small wite horizontall line under my toenail and time pSt from ignoring it and now its thick and soft to the point where i know i can peel it off it will b like 1/3 nail still there. Toenail Fungus- Would Remedies Work?
I am 17 and I have had toenail fungus for some time now. I have it on both of my big toes, and on each, it is only on half of it. The half where the fungus is appears thicker and lifts the nail up. It looks very bad. I was wondering if there was any hope for this problem. Will the thickness ever disappear is I take the proper treatments?

i have had this problem for years and recently had to see a podiatrist (foot person) who told me to put Tea Tree Oil on it. i purchased a bottle of it and use a cotton bud dipped in and run it over the nail every day if possible. i often forget for days at time but surprise, surprise, it really works and mine has nearly disappeared. very cheap good remedy. the oil can be obtained from a supermarket (probably the cheapest) and chemist/pharmacist and probably a health food type place.

Home remedies do no not work... You need to go to a podiatrist. The first thing they will do is take clippings of your toe nail they will send this to the lab to make sure what you have is indeed a nail fungus. The next thing they will do is place your foot under a light to get a closer look at it. If the lab results find fungus and you are other wise healthy, like a person with no diabetes or thyroid condition they will prescribe lamisil and you have to take it 3 times a day for 3 months. every month you have to go back to the podiatrist to have blood test taken to make sure the medication has no bad side effects on you. After the 3rd month you don't have to take it anymore because now it is in your system between 6months to 1 year depending on how bad your fungus is will be how long it takes to clear it up. Trust me its worth it going to a foot doctor.

i have had this problem for years and recently had to see a podiatrist (foot person) who told me to put Tea Tree Oil on it. i purchased a bottle of it and use a cotton bud dipped in and run it over the nail every day if possible. i often forget for days at time but surprise, surprise, it really works and mine has nearly disappeared. very cheap good remedy. the oil can be obtained from a supermarket (probably the cheapest) and chemist/pharmacist and probably a health food type place.

Home remedies do no not work... You need to go to a podiatrist. The first thing they will do is take clippings of your toe nail they will send this to the lab to make sure what you have is indeed a nail fungus. The next thing they will do is place your foot under a light to get a closer look at it. If the lab results find fungus and you are other wise healthy, like a person with no diabetes or thyroid condition they will prescribe lamisil and you have to take it 3 times a day for 3 months. every month you have to go back to the podiatrist to have blood test taken to make sure the medication has no bad side effects on you. After the 3rd month you don't have to take it anymore because now it is in your system between 6months to 1 year depending on how bad your fungus is will be how long it takes to clear it up. Trust me its worth it going to a foot doctor.

The last time I wore toenail polish it made my toenails have some sort of fungus underneath the nail. I applied medicine and it seems to be going away finally. I suck at cutting my nails. Everytime I cut my toenails, it has to be cut deeper and deeper to the point where i cant reach it, which is about halfway. Is there any way to fix this? For example, can i just get a pedicure, will they fix it for me?Toenail problem?

First i seen a small wite horizontall line under my toenail and time pSt from ignoring it and now its thick and soft to the point where i know i can peel it off it will b like 1/3 nail still there. i went to disneyland on monday..and i didnt wear the right kind of shoes..
my feet hurt really bad by the end of the day.. and now on both of my big toenails, it looks and feels like the back part of the nail is lifting up..and its kinda dark, but the skin is still attached.

They grow back sometime and sometimes they don't. The nail on my right toe grew back but the one on my left didn't.Am i gonna lose my toenail?

well... i was playing indoor football with some friends in bare feets... i have had an ingrown toenail when i was little and the doc had to cut it out. but i always get these sore big toenails that feel infected but then i just put neosporin on it and its fine. Don't worry about it. I highly doubt that your toenail will fall off. I think that you just bruised your toenail. try wrapping it and wearing sandals, and try to elevate it and not walk on it too much. It will heal, just give it some time.

i have had an ingrown toenail when i was little and the doc had to cut it out. but i always get these sore big toenails that feel infected but then i just put neosporin on it and its fine. I'v been dealing with Ingrown toenails all my life. And please bare in mind this is my opinion and I'v found it to work and be cheaper then getting it removed professionally.
Normally my ingrown toenails come back ever 3-4 months. It really depends on what stage your at. If you have it infected of course your going to deal with pain. what you want to do it cut kind of a half U on the side thats ingrown with a knife, after that get tweezers and just keep pulling it till it comes out. You are going to feel pain from the infection so before and after put a cap of hydrogen peroxide in the area. Then it'll be just fine.
If its not infected you will have it worlds easier. Just cut the U part and pull till it comes out. Now after you get it out cut a V in the very top part of your toenail that way your nail will grow in a little to try to heal it thus taking the ingrown part out for a small amount of time.
I have had friends and family go to the doctors and get the ingrown part removed. It only worked for a year at most then came back.
As long as you can endure the pain of pushing your skin apart to put the tweezers in there you grab the nail thats the most amount of pain your get.
