Ingrown toenail is killing me! help?
OK buddy. i hear ya. I've had a constant problem with ingrown toenails as well. Like others have said b4, if it's bad and infected then you gotta head on in to a foot and ankle doc and get it cut out. However, if it's not super bad and it's just annoying, then make sure you use the neosporin the dude earlier said AND put cotton underneath the front of your nail. I know this sounds weird but it relieves the pressure from the side of you nail where it's ingrown. Trust me, I've had this problem b4, it helps.Ingrown toenail is killing me! help?
The most common cause of ingrown toenails is improper trimming. Cutting your nails too short encourages the skin next to the nail to fold over the nail. In some of the cases i think to have this common disorder is inherited. In other cases, an ingrown toenail is the result of trauma, maybe like having an object fall on them, stubbing it or engaging in activities that involve repeated pressure on the toes, such as kicking or running. (I take mix martial arts, so it happens to me from time to times... T_T ) Another cause of ingrown toenails is wearing shoes that are tight or short too, so avoid poorly-fitting shoes which the flip flops were a good idea. Actually, don't wear it too often, that just leaves pressure on your feet. So a size or size in a half might do some good at some point.
If you don鈥檛 have an infection or anything of that sort like cuts etc., you can soak your foot in warm water and gently massage the side of the nail fold to help reduce the irritation. Try a bit of lotion or an oinment after you pat it dry with a towel. BUT I SUGGEST you try not taking care of this with home remedies... Its recommended by a few doctors.
Anyways... getting back to bussiness, repeated cutting of the nail can make the condition even worst over time. Cut your toenails in a fairly straight line and not curved, BUT don鈥檛 cut them too short! When it starts to grow it can curve into skin like in an angle. You should be able to get your fingernail under the sides and end of the nail like a centimeter or so... If your symptoms doesn't improve in less than another few few weeks or less, I would think it鈥檚 time to see a foot and ankle docter or like a surgeon. (I HATE GOING TO THE DOCTORS BUT THERES NOT MUCH YOU CAN DO!!!) BUT...do so, they know wats best. Their solution are simple, even it it might mean surgery. I never got one but its like a very small cut they make and it only takes a small bandage and the only think you be feeling is like the needle to numb it... I hate shots but you might be needing surgery. But I hope its nothing that bad... So good luck with it. Don't Avoid the doctors for too long.
You need to go to the ER and get yout toe nail partially removed. I work in the ER and this is the process. First we inject your toe with Lidocaine to numb your toe which its called a DIGITAL BLOCK. Then we use scissors to cut between your skin and nail then get the clamps and pull it out. The only pain you will feel is when injecting you with the numbing substance, after that you will not feel anything. In the other hand, if you dont get it fixed then your skin will get infected until you will not be able to walk or wear shoes anymore and it will be harder to do the surgical process that I just mentioned. You will also need to be on antibiotics for a while to kill all the bad infection. Any questions ??.. ok then go to the ER and be a man.
You can try something like Neosporin with the pain formulation in it to see if that helps but because of how long this has been going on for I would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they say.
Sounds like its time to see your doctor, at the very least, a pedicurist. I have the same problem from time to time and getting regular pedicures really helps.
