Soak your foot/feet in warm water and epsom salts (you can get it really cheap at any drug store). You may also need medical attention because it can get infected. Please tell me what to do about an ingrown toenail... my toe's completely swollen and I'm in so much pain!!
go to ur doctor have them pull it before u lose the nail and then the boys. Please tell me what to do about an ingrown toenail... my toe's completely swollen and I'm in so much pain!!
You can remove it your self but it will be EXTREAMLY painful. You're best bet is to go to the doctor because an in grown toe nail could very well result in gain green, which means blood posioning and your toe could rot off-----really !! I am not lying cuz thats what the doctor told me.
After you soak it in warm water with hydrogen peroxide and the nail has softened, stuff as much sterile cotton in the affected area between the nail and the toe as you can stand. Repeat this twice daily.
If you have a serious infection and/or you are diabetic, see a doctor.
Go to the dr. now and let him remove it. Unless you want to risk it getting infected by digging it out yourself.
You need to make a salt pack with Epsom Salts. Take a paper towel and put epsom salts in the towel, fold it up and wrap it around your toe. Put water over it, just enough to get it good a damp, then put your whole foot in an ';ace'; bandage or just wrap your toe/foot in some kind of bandage to keep the salt pack in place OVERNIGHT. In the morning the pain should be gone, you should be able to trim the corner out of the nail and clean out the ';ingrown'; area. Then repeat the salt pack over night once again.
Smurfette and Joe - or was it Jay (sorry) are right. Call the Pod. Dr., they will do the procedure and by killing the root you will not have to worry about it again. It is not as bad as it sounds. The worst part of the procedure is the numbing of the toe. Plus, if you are hurting that bad ... the procedure is nothing compaired to the toe infection (and I know your pain ... it hurts!!) Don't wait too long to get it taken care of. The infection and travel up the foot and the leg - that is all you need! Plus, you don't want to ruin your weekend. If you can't get in with a Pod. Dr. at least call and get an appt., with your FCP until you can so you can get the infection under control. Good luck! Don't suffer ....
Go to a doctor if this keeps happening. They return and hurt and hurt. It gets old fast. A doctor can make it so that your toenail will stop doing this.
You need to go to the doctor. It's not so bad really. My ex-husband had to have this done twice. First the doctor froze it with this icy spray from a can. Then he put in novocaine all around the toe with a needle, but the icy spray prevented my ex from feeling that at all. Then the doctor trimmed the toenail down the side to remove the ingrown part, put this other stuff on it to ';kill the root'; so it wouldn't grow back. Again, my ex felt none of this. Then the doctor cleaned the toe and bandaged it nicely. And that was it. When the freezing wore off, my ex said it was sore, but much better, and it healed in just a couple of days.
You have to get it taken care of. It'll be so much better and you'll be glad you did it.
I can't tell you how to treat an ingrown toenail - you probably ought to see a doctor. But I can tell you a great way to prevent them. Start doing this after everything is cleared up:
When you get out of the shower/bath, while your toenails are still wet and softish, use the point of the file thing attached to the clippers to clean out under your toenails, lifting the edges of them just short of the point of pain. Do this DAILY. When you clip your toenails, cut them off straight - not curved. A straight-cut nail will resist curving under and growing in. It's worked for me for over 35 years.
You probably should go to your family doctor and have the nail removed. It will eventually grow back and likely be much healthier. It doesn't hurt any more to have it removed than it hurts to have to dig into the skin to cut the nail loose right now and again the next time. You may even have to have help with that. I had problem toe nails and actually had to cut into my skin to reach the ingrown nail enough to clip it....finally went and had the two big toe nails removed.
Smurfette is right. I used to have ingrown toenail and had the procedure she is talking about. I worked great and it hurt way less than the ingrown nail itself. The nail didn't have to be remove and I now don't have to worry about ingrown nails. If you are going to use epsom salts just use cool water. Warm or hot water can cause more inflammation in the toe. Taking advil or ibuprofen will help with the pain. There is also a product called outgrow that is a topical anesthetic.
if it's that bad you need to go to a doctor ASAP....you don't want it to go in so far it hits your bone..that will be a problem...the doctor will take it out for you...good luck
For tonight until you can go see a podiatrist. Soak your toe in luke warm water and epsom salt. this will help some of the infection and swelling. Tomorrow call a podiatrist or your family doctor. A podiatrist can cut down the side of your nail and kill off the root so it dont come back this is called a P%26amp;A also some kind of antibiotics are given whether they are oral or external is totally up to the discretion of the doc. get it done soon so it dont get worse ifection can travel up your foot..
Soak your foot in epsom salt and stay off them for a while. In the meantime wear soft shoes and repeat take advil its an anti inflammatory and put an ice pack on it. But if it gets worse you need to see a doctor to make sure you don't have an infection.
You need to see a good foot doctor. I had an ingrown toenail and lost my toenail. I also got a staff infection. Be careful especially if you are diabetic as I am.
Ingrown Toenail Cure: At bedtime, put a slim wedge of a lemon on the problem toenail, keeping it in place with a Band-Aid and cover it with a sock. Sleep that way, and by morning the lemon should have softened the nail enough to ease it away from the skin so that you can trim it.
Repeat if needed. Note: Please cut the nail straight across. not down at the sides, and not shorter than the toe.
Good Luck!
