Will my toenail fall off?

I dropped a picklejar on my toe about a week and a half ago. It hurt really bad at first until I went to the DR. and they poked holes in my toenail and relieved the pressure. I now have three holes in my big toenail (I can't paint it or anything, I tried and it really sucked). Do you think that it will fall off? The dr said that it might, but he was not sure, and everyone else that I have known that has had a similar circumstance had the nail fall off. It feels a little bruised right now, but not much worse than that. And also, if your nail has fallen off, did it hurt at all? I am a weenie... not sure if I can take that... as if I have much of an option :-D. Thanks for your help! Will my toenail fall off?
If it still hurts is because is healing, you know that it will fall off if you see is getting unattached to the skin or you see like a bubble inside. Just leave it alone and don't pick at it because you can get an infection. If it does fall off it may be good because you will have more access to the affected area and will let a new nail grow without aany damaged one around. Good luckWill my toenail fall off?
holes?? i cant imagine what that looks like. it sounds weird tho. i hope it doesnt fall off! maybe it will just grow out. thats gonna suck when u want to wear flip flops this summer... i had somthing fall on my toe and it had a black spot on it for a long time but luckily it didnt fall off
The damaged nail has been detached from the nail bed where the blood pooled under the nail before they drilled the holes. Whether the nail sheds depends on how big that area of detachment is, and if the nail is still attached at the sides. More than likely, the new nail will simply grown in behind it and push it out, just like it usually does. The area where it's not attached will look like it has an air bubble under it, and will bow up slightly as it grows out. You should not paint the nail at all, since the polish and remover can seep through the holes to the underside and cause a reaction you would not like at all. The process of regrowning the nail will not hurt any more than it ever did to grow a toenail. If the old nail begins to bow up and snag on your socks or such, you simply trim it back with a scissor or clippers and cover it with a bandaid until it's all grown out and off. It will not hurt to cut the nail, but it will hurt if you pull on it accidently. If the nail actually comes loose, it usually still hangs on by the sides. It won't hurt unless it gets snagged on something and pulled the rest of the way off. Which is why you keep the bandaid on it. I've had bashed toenails before, and I've drilled the holes in other peoples nails to relieve the pressure. Whether you lose the nail completely just depends on how much is still attached and where it's attached at. If you bashed the back, where the nail begins, then the new nail grows underneath the old one and pushes it out. Looks awful, doesn't hurt a bit. The skin where there is a gap between the nail and nail bed thickens to protect the toe. You already suffered the worst of the pain, from here out is downhill. But you won't look great in open toe shoes for a few months. That's the worst of it.
hello. Yes your toe-nail will come off.No it won't hurt. But it might be sore for a while. What you need to do,is make sure the area where the new nail will grow,is kept dirt free.It will take about six months.
