On of the best ways to deal with constant in grown toe nails is to let it completely grow out. Lift the corner of the nail out from under the skin and put a piece of cotton ball underneath to keep the nail from going back into the skin. Keep replacing the cotton as you loose it and as the toe grows, it will eventually just grow as an even toe nail above the skin.
Keep an eye out for infection (heat at the site, painful to touch, discharge, inflammation).
Good luck, they are painful!!Dealing with an in-growing toenail?
Get a good chiropodist to deal with it or get your doctor to refer you to a podiatrist. The advice above re cutting a V is a traditional cure but I'm not sure if it really works.
It's difficult to deal with yourself. If you ingrowing toenail has thickened (as in older people) get 'tree oil' in a small bottle from the chemist or on prescription. When brushed onto a troublesome nail it softens it and eases any pain.
I had a problem with an ingrown toe nail on my big toe for years. Last year I had enough and started looking for an alternative to cutting the painfull part of the nail away. it doesnt work, the nail grows back and the pain returns. I found a product called Gehwol Fluid. It treats the nail by making it softer therefore you can grow the nail out and the pain goes away. I have used this for about 18 months and the result is fab, if the pain returns (If i have been wearing trainers or walking for a long while) I just pop some of the oil around the nail and the pain goes. I cant remember the website i got it from but it costs about 拢3.00 plus P%26amp;P - lasts for ages and REALLY WORKS. put Gehwol Fluid into google and you'll be able to find it no problem
its kind of hard to explain but i use to deal with these but now i know to to prevent them. in the middle of your toenail cut out a triangle with the tip facing in ill try to draw it out here

the @ is the toenail and the little V in the top gives it room so it cant grow back into your toe because it will have to fill in that space first
{ see a good chiropodist}ihad an operation removing thecomplete side of the nail ;the doctor filled the gap with some kind of mixture ,that disolved after a while;this was some time ago,and i still get trouble with it;so i guess .;that was a waste of time?,very painful ;i could;nt walk properly for weeks afterwards.take the above advise;and get job done right.;good luck.;
I advize you go to the doctor,
i tried sorting mine out by trimming it at the edges and cutting it straight as i was told thats what the doctors would do - but it made it worse and grow deeper into me,
Doctors will sort it simply and not so painfully for you!
A bit of Cotton wool rolled up tight pushed in under the nail. It lifts the nail clear of the skin relieving the pain and allowing the nail to grow back to normal.
Go to the doctor. I have the same problem and by cutting it you will make it ten times worse.
