    Dear Yaya,

The most cardinal sign of infection is swelling and pain. The pus is a major indicator of an ingrown toenail infection. Sometimes the initial treatment for ingrown toenails can be safely performed right at home. However, home treatment is very strongly discouraged if you think you have an infection, or if you have a medical condition that puts your feet at high risk鈥攆or example, diabetes, nerve damage in the foot, or poor circulation.

You can try soaking your foot in room-temperature water (add Epsom鈥檚 salt if you wish), and gently massage the side of the nail fold to help reduce the inflammation. You can do this simple home therapy if you do not have infection or above mentioned conditions.

To prevent ingrowns from developing, always cut your nail straight across and never cut your nails too shortSkin under and around toenail blue and painful? help!?
it is an ingrow toenail, you will need to cut it out to get it to heal better. If you don't have the stomach to do it yourself your Dr can do it for you.
IT'S PROBALY AN INFECTED INGROWN TOE NAIL. YOU MIGHT NEED TO SEE A DR TO GET IT CHECKED AND GET ANTIBIOTICS. ALSO YOU CAN TRY TO SOAK IT IN WARM WATER W/ SALT
This could be serious. You should see a doctor ASAP

    What's an ingrown toenail?

More fun than you can imagine.

Seriously, the toenail has curled around and started growing into the toe. It is very painful and you should cut the nail if it hasn't gone too far. If so, see a podiatrist and he will cut it out. Sounds bad but it really isn't . Not a pleasant experience but he will use painkillers and it will be worth the effort. What's an ingrown toenail?
When a toenail is ingrown, the nail is curved downward and grows into the skin, usually at the nail borders (the sides of the nail). This “digging in” of the nail irritates the skin, often creating pain, redness, swelling, and warmth in the toe.

If an ingrown nail causes a break in the skin, bacteria may enter and cause an infection in the area, which is often marked by drainage and a foul odor. However, even if your toe isn’t painful, red, swollen, or warm, a nail that curves downward into the skin can progress to an infection. What's an ingrown toenail?
my dad gets them all the time and actually had to get them removed... a ingrown toe nail is when your nail grows out as usual, but as it reached the tip of your toe, it begins to curl downward and closes in on the skin of your toe. it is difficult to explain. you will need to go to the doctor, because they do not get better on their own, you may need to get your toenail removed.

    good luck!!!
I have had 3 ingrown toenails in my life. (im 16). They are extremely painful. It is when the nail grows out from a side and penetrates the skin. It can cause infection and intense pain. Each one I had, I had to do a small surgery to remove it. The doctor would numb my toe and cut through my skin to reach it, then snip it off. It is a small surgery but your toe will bleed the next 2 days. I was prescribed an antibiotic also because of the infection.
There are many causes for an ingrown toenail, from tight fitting shoes, to cutting your nails too short. Ingrown nails can also occur on your fingers as one of the main causes is from cutting your nails too short.

Ingrown nails is a very painful condition that can lead to infection if not treated.
if you cut your toe nail to short and when it starts growing back it grows like into your skin

    pretty disgusting
I think its a tail that grows the inside not outside
    it's not a pretty site....

Does red and black toenail polish make me a sissy?

My niece painted them at the pool this weekend and put a surfboard on each big toe....it looks cool but I feel friends will taunt me until their throats are sore.Does red and black toenail polish make me a sissy?
    i think it looks sexy

did you used to be timinator?Does red and black toenail polish make me a sissy?
why are your friends lookin at your feet (toes)?
Nah- just stay away from pink...
    no.

    its cute.
If you tell or show your friends, you deserve any ridicule you get. Take the gay stuff off!
I'd rather not have my toenails painted, no matter what color. Do what you want though, they are your toes!
    try transparent
As long as you feel comfortable with wearing red/black toenail polish; to each its own. Does not make you a sissy. Tell them that you are just ';original'; and that they should not judge you by ';your'; toenails! Enjoy your originality and do not let others personal opinions of you stop you from doing what you like. If they tease you; just ignore them. Soon they will see that what they say does not affect you.
It doesn't make you a sissy, but it kind of sounds gay!
    No, it's cool!
    Nah!

I'd just recomend you stay away from my parents... they will most likely ask you to marry me.... lol

Ow~ I split my toenail. what happens now?

I stubbed my toe and my nail split. It was bleeding really bad and I have an appointment in 2 hrs.

    what will happen?

    will I loose my nail?

    how long will it hurt?

    can I not exercise now?

will i get a crazy fungus infection if my feet sweat?Ow~ I split my toenail. what happens now?
they may have to remove the nail, it depends on how bad you injured it. it will be sore for a couple days. you can exercise, as long as you didn't break the toe, i'm sure as much as you are able to tolerate the discomfort. just make sure the area stays clean. also, make sure you keep change your socks often enough. i would put clean ones on before you exercise and remove them when you're done. also, apply neosporin (triple antibiotic ointment) and a band aid with each sock change (do it at least 2 times a day). when you go to bed at night clean the area with soap and water and don't put anything on it. leaving it open to air will allow it to heal quickly while putting the neosporin on during the day will help keep infection down. it will heal and begin to hurt less, even before the nail grows back. good luck.Ow~ I split my toenail. what happens now?
Chances are you will just have to wrap your toe for a while until the nail grows out. I am sorry for

your injury. That has got to hurt. Just keep your toe clean. The doctor may give you some antibiotics to keep your toe from getting infected.

    Good luck hun!
No to all. Use a bandaid to pull it together and apply whatever pressure you can get on it.
it will hurt until the split grows out of your toe, maybe a month. you won't get a fungus unless your toe gets really dirty. you might loose your nail, but it will grow back. and you can exercise, but it might hurt a lot. and, if your feet sweat, you will get salt in it and it will hurt badbad.
    1] keep it clean

2] put some antibiotic ointment on it, with a bandaid, for 48 hours. It usually feels a lot better after that.

3] wear shoes with toe protection until it starts healing [ scabbed or dried ]

4] you can exercise with good footwear and if it doesn't hurt.

5] the nail usually grows out - trim any excess nail after 5- 7 days, and keep an eye on it.

Ive got a ingrown toenail how do you cure it?? i have to go on camp in 3 days and i want it to be cured.?

ok, what does this have to do with geneaology, is it heriditary?Ive got a ingrown toenail how do you cure it?? i have to go on camp in 3 days and i want it to be cured.?
a fast trip to a doctor is the easy and safe way to go. It won't take long.Ive got a ingrown toenail how do you cure it?? i have to go on camp in 3 days and i want it to be cured.?
soak u're toe and then cut it away. U ABSOLUTLY HAVE 2 SOAK IT!!
Go to a foot doctor, they generally remove it surgically by numbing your toe, then cutting away a portion of the nail. You should wait until after camp though, because there would be a risk of getting the toe infected after surgury. I've had the procedure done, and do know what I'm talking about.
A doctor can do it for you very quickly, and it will stay fixed. You can't fix it yourself.
YOO HOO---WHY DID YOU ASK YOUR QUESTION IN AN AREA WHERE YOU LOOK INTO YOUR PAST---IS THIS AN ONGOING PROBLEM PASSED DOWN FROM GRANNY? SOAK THE TOE TRIM IT AND CRAM SOME COTTON UNDER THE NAIL TO HOLD IT UP ---VICKS HELPS ALSO.
You need to go to a podiatrist. If you try to fix it yourself it could make it worse and it will come back anyway (plus it can become severely infected if not treated properly).
both of my husbands big toenails were ingrown. he had to have a shot in both toes and the doctor had to pull them out. that was the only was his could be fixed. i also had a friend who had to have surgery to fix them. maybe you can cut them for now but you will more than likely have to go to the doctor.
that hapend to me so soak it then cut it
NUMB THE TOE or take a pain killer pill and then pinch the pus really hard so it gone then blast water there then clip the nail till it's hanging then gently pull it but the toe has to be NUMB the whole time
